The man had many many roles.
Also this is not a dig at anyone who is remembering him as snape, just a reminder there are tons of great Rickman roles.

Damn straight.
Hans, the Sheriff, Marvin the Paranoid Android, Metatron, the man was brilliant. He will be missed.

Like the villain in the greatest Christmas movie ever:

To me he's Hans Grueber first.

hans Gruber was great.
but keep in mind, with a lot of younger oppos here, harry potter was OUR generation story. some of the older oppos had lord of the rings and Star wars/star trek. HP was ours.
Thats why 90% of the people will know him as Snape.

I’m pretty sure many would agree. I like him as the sheriff in Robin Hood because he is the only good part of the movie.

I’m not just referring to Oppo. I just want to make sure people remember he had a wide and varied body of work. Again, not a dig at anyone who chooses to remember him as snape.

he did have other roles (and they were GREAT) but snape and gruber where his best known

It suddenly strikes me that if you reverse this gif, it’s about a man who’s shocked and horrified to discover that he can fly.

He was fantastic in Galaxy Quest, which is a seriously underrated movie.

There are a number of actors who had a single defining role and could never seem to shake it off (at least for me). Alan Alda comes to mind. No matter what I see him in, I see Hawkeye Pierce. The same for Daniel Radcliffe. Great actor, but I’ll always associate his face with Harry Potter. For me Rickman was never caught in that trap. Everybody remembers him as Hans Gruber, or certainly Severus Snape, but I find that when I see him in other roles I say, “Hey, that’s the Snape guy” but continue to enjoy the performance seeing Rickman as that character, not as Snape or Gruber. No disrespect to Alda or Radcliffe et al, but the truly great actors can transcend their iconic roles, and Rickman certainly did.

“By Grabthar’s hammer... what a savings.”
And Bottle Shock is on Netflix streaming - he’s fantastic in the movie, which has been wholly overlooked.

You’re right, but Alan Rickman portrayed the same incredibly compelling character for eight movies that played out over the course of a decade, targeted to an audience that likely wouldn’t have been familiar with most of his other work. I can’t blame anyone who knew him first and foremost as Professor Snape and is mourning him for that. It doesn’t take away from his other accomplishments.

It’s a shame that “he will not be joining us, for the rest of his life. “

Apart from the ending being a bit drawn out, that movie was damn near perfect and grossly misunderstood. Death To Smoochy is in the same boat.

You mean like if Professor Snape just learned he was a wizard?
